Wayne Henion (deacon)

I was born in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, so I claim my roots to be from Virginia. I have always loved the water, so after 30+ years in law enforcement, I came back to Virginia to retire, to live my dream to have a home alongside the water where I could walk off my backyard onto my fishing boat.

I asked God for direction and during my first weekend in Mathews, He sent me to Faith Baptist Church, even before I found my permanent home. I officially joined the church as a member in May of 2009.

There is so much to do with our church and I enjoy helping in so many areas, including assistant Sunday School teacher, property maintenance, and special projects such as the Live Christmas Nativity and Gwynn’s Island Festival. I was ordained as a deacon in December of 2018.

Some of my family also live in Mathews and I enjoy spending time with my seven grandchildren as much as possible, and now my first great-granddaughter, when she comes to visit. I love to tinker and claim to be a DIY-er. I have an old 1957 Chevy (my first car) that I intend to restore. In the meantime, I love riding in my Chevy SSR sports car. I have promised myself that I will spend more time on the water, maybe even some fishing, Lord willing.

I hope to see you at our church–come, visit, and introduce yourself!
